flag project
Size: 12.5 by 15 in
Medium: Colored pencil on paper Date: April 2019 With this project it was my time to show what I felt Reagan, IB, and MPS as a whole represented together in the same way different and give a message. In my art I used straight lines because each one of them are going up and in a positive direction. I put the paw in the middle to show that Reagan and Huskies as a whole stands for all of this. Blue,Yellow, And dark blue are all colors that they each have in common. I also used their mission statements to help guide where I was going with my flag.

InspirationWith this flag I like all the meaning behind it and how it shows unity as a whole and we are all one. Which is what i wanted my flag to come across as. I also liked how many colors they used in the flag.
I USED CANADA’S FLAG AS INSPIRATION BECAUSE I REALLY LIKED THE SET UP AND HOW SIMPLE IT LOOKS AND THAT THERE WEREN’T MANY COLORS USED. ALSO HOW THERE IS A LEAF IN THE MIDDLE

MPS MISSION STATEMENT Milwaukee Public Schools is a diverse district that welcomes all students, preparing them for success in higher education, post-educational opportunities and citizenship. IB MISSION STATEMENT The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. reflectionMy piece tries to emulate Reagan in strict hue choice, emphasis on a husky paw print for school pride, and the symbolism of a shooting star jumping out of the box. Reagan’s a very “out of the box” school, I’ve used related symbolism in my other MIAD silk screen prints, but I wanted to show how every student, represented in as a husky paw print, shoots outside of the box intelligently and creatively. We’re all shooting stars here, in a way, trying to find where we’ll go in the future, but always moving forward, being more than just what’s expected (staying inside that box). |
processFirst I sketched the flag design onto my drawing paper making sure I make very light marks on the paper, as to erase later if I made a mistake with out permanently marking the paper. After I'm done sketching. I used black and light blue color pencils. I made hard and deliberate strokes, doing my best to not leave any white spaces where I didn't want any. It was supposed to be a flag, so it needs to look like its one solid color.
Next was where I had to cut my foam board to the correct dimensions for future presentation of my flag. I gathered materials:
